Pride, clash of culture, style are major themes in my work as I try to create a dream world, an “afro-futuristic” vision were I leave my viewer curious at my figures.
My work potrays the present set back faced by blacks in regards to identity, “identity crisis” is a major theme that influences my work, which I clearly execute using two different materials, the newspaper as a symbol of western material and the African fabrics as a symbol of western material and culture and the African fabrics as a symbol of African material and culture, they both stand out as a major elements in this piece and they clearly represent my idea on “clash of culture”. The newspapers also play the role of knowledge and my familiarity with the borrowed language “English”; as it is a colonial, it shows my intellectual capability to comprehend deep phrases and sentences which tells controversial stories.
